Protected Areas

Protected areas are places that are so important that this generation commits to passing them on to future generations. For environmental reasons or cultural needs, these places combine the traditions of people with their aspirations for the future.

Soulanges Canal Heritage Study

The Soulanges Canal is more than an engineering work—it is a cultural landscape that tells the story of a region shaped by water, trade, and innovation. Built in the late 19th century, its route links communities, histories, and ecosystems across the territory. Our heritage study for the canal explored its layered values, identifying both the conservation needs and development potential of this remarkable site. By integrating historical, landscape, and archaeological perspectives, we helped define how future revitalization can honour its past while supporting sustainable development. The result is a framework that positions heritage as a driver of renewal - connecting people, place, and purpose along the canal’s historic course.
